A field guide youll never leave at home! Wildflowers of the Western Plains is a field guide based on the book of the same name by Zoe Merriman Kirkpatrick. It includes nearly 250 photos of 186 species of flowering plants found in the plains from western Texas and eastern New Mexico, though Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, and up into Canada. (See http://www.earthrover.org/Earthrover_Software/Wildflowers_of_the_Western_Plains.html for coverage map). The flowers, fruit, range, latin name, family, and common names are given for each plant, and many entries include recipes, Native American botanical practices, and observations by the author. Plant descriptions include links to a glossary of botanical terms, and illustrations for some families.

Plants can be browsed or searched for by many ways. A thumbnail browser lets you quickly scan hundreds of thumbnails organized by photo type, flower color, and family. A Search screen lets you find plants based on blooming period (including whats blooming now), habitat, plant type, and text. You can also browse plants by family, or by the alphabetical index containing entries for latin and common names. Plants can be bookmarked so you can easily return to them, and the application includes built-in help.
